What amazes me more than anything about Berlin is that I was actually 13 when on the 9th November 1989 they started to take the wall down dividing East and West. I was completely oblivious to it all with the only small bit of memory being a boy from school who had brought a colourful piece of the Wall in to show everybody. My interest in the significance of this event was superseded by girls, parties and the next episode Neighbours and Home and Away. Read the rest of this entry »
People travelling I find generally seem to fit into one of two camps:

One of the best ways we learn is when we make a mistake and today I did just that by attempting a German fast single carriageway. Not quite an autobahn but it didn’t feel far off. Read the rest of this entry »
I love visiting the bäckerei as I travel from place to place. In Havelberg I was fortunate enough to find myself holed up for 2 hours in one with an excuse of pouring rain to sit, admire, taste and smell freshly baking delicacies.

German is a difficult language. Apparently in my brief attempt to learn it I sound like I am trying to give it a Spanish accent which sounds ‘sweet’. I will persevere out of courtesy more than anything since I know everybody (certainly in the cities) speaks English and in some cases have more vocabulary than I. Read the rest of this entry »
The Berlin Wall East Side Gallery is a 1.3km-long section of the wall near the center of Berlin. There are 106 paintings by artists from all over the world covering this memorial for freedom. This makes it the largest open air gallery in the world. Read the rest of this entry »
I did the research on average German’s drink 10.2 litres per head, the UK 11.2 litres per capita and this data doesn’t even include the under 15 age range which would bump up our figures even further. We win again 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »
